We’re into the heart of November and you can already hear the festive bells of December tolling in the distance. ‘tis the season to be jolly right? Well, apparently Verizon Wireless weren’t feeling that warm and fuzzy holiday cheer. Check out their new Christmas-themed ad that shows Apple’s iphone 3G being banished to the “island of misfit toys”. When you watch the video (below) you’ll notice that it’s more of a smear campaign against AT&T rather than the iphone, but I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that somebody might be getting crossed off Steve Jobs’ Christmas card list.

Personally I don’t really like ads that target their competition so brazenly (I mean this one has all the subtlety of a kitten flailing about in a ball of yarn). The ad sure has the youtubarazzi polarized on whether they love it or loathe it but for me Verizon come off a tad sour-grape-ish because they still don’t have the rights to distriibute the iphone. I guess the nicest thing that I can say about it is that it’s pretty cute – which is not really a lot.
